Tinnitus can be tamed but there is no Cure.

"A sound in one ear or both ears, such as buzzing, ringing, or whistling, occurring without an external stimulus and usually caused by a specific condition, such as an ear infection, the use of certain drugs, a blocked auditory tube or canal, or a head injury."

For me it's a high pitched buzz, (recorded below) you may or may not be able to hear it, children will!

Use wax type ear plugs that mould to the shape of your ear, again not a cure. I need a few hours of total silence to notice a big decrease in volume.

The other helper for me is to play the exact same sound I hear via my iPod.

I do this by matching the sound with a frequency/tone generator then recording it.

To generate the tone use something like: Example search for “Free Test Tone Generator” but check out the site to see if they look genuine.

Test Tone Generator 4.32 You can also try various White noise generators.

To record it you may be able to use Windows sound recorder, I use Total Recorder.

You would need to play it for an hour at least.

The way I figure it is a bit like a train; if you live close to a railway station you don’t notice them. Your brain doesn't’ bother you with the noise as “it” knows the noise background and regular.
