Turn the screen or camera off if you're not going to be using it for a while. This makes sure you always have enough battery to take the perfect shot when the moment arises. - Stock up on memory
You can easily replace memory cards on the go, so feel free to add a few to your camera case so you can always take the shots you need. If you're buying large memory cards, sometimes it might be a fair bit cheaper to buy two of the same size memory card than one double the size - although you will have to switch them over when the first one is full.
