Hot Epson EB W8 Review
This is not a dedicated 16:9 home cinema projector but..The Epson W8 multifunction is not bad for home cinema in the lounge room either! Not as good in a totally dark room as a dedicated home cinema projector but look at the price! The "Theatre" mode works well, all we did was turn down the lamp by switching to "Eco" mode which cut the fan noise to almost the same level as a dedicated home cinema model yet did not make a big difference to the massive brightness.
In the image above that's projected onto a wall the 100" projection screen in the middle actually kills the image for the camera (too bright) the wall is GRAY! So we projected it on the ceiling for fun and that's one cool way to watch movies in bed.
The bottom line is power enough to fill a whole wall (light gray would be the best colour) and fantastic results on a 100" screen but you can't have the projector more than 3m from the screen, it would be best to have it centered to the screen as per a book shelf (lower cost projectors miss out on lens shift).
We found the "Blackboard" mode gave the most natural skin tones (Almost perfect) and you can get 16:9 digital TV to align with a 16:9 projection screen with some over-scan which means there will be gray bars beyond the screen border which wouldn't really matter.
You can put the Epson W8 projector on the coffee table then adjust the keystone to balance the image.
