You might find it interesting to know, CIS sensors started life in products such as fax machines! Where image quality was not as important as cost and size.

Canon's little beauty, the Canon P150 portable document scanner is ideal for business trips and meetings away from the office where it's important to have scanner equipment handy. They've been selling quite successfully, and it's no wonder to see why. The P150 is a portable scanner that can be folded down to just 42 x 282 x 98mm. Despite its remarkably small size, the Canon P-150 is a fully-functional duplex sheet-fed document scanner, capable of batch scanning up to 20 sheets at a time with a speed of 15ppm.
